Luodian Dragon Boat

Originating from the Ming Dynasty and prevailing in the Qing Dynasty, the Luodian dragon boat is mainly used for performing and racing with the purpose for appreciation topping that for racing. With fine craftsmanship and unique styles, the boat boasts distinctive local cultural features with the thorough inheritance of the styles of the dragon boats in the region of Wuyue as well as quite a few creations. The boat features small size, flat bottom, high speed and convenience in sailing in the narrow local rivers. With the dragon head vividly carved with camphora wood, the upward dragon mouth and tail and the eye-catching flags and colorful banners on the boat, the boat is characterized by unique overall structure. In June 2007, Luodian dragon boat was included in the first batch of Shanghai intangible cultural heritages and in September 2008, it was listed in the second batch of the national intangible cultural heritages.
